Crime and Justice Frames Commonly Seen in the Media In the social construction of the crime-and-justice sector, frames or prepackaged constructions include both interpretative and factual claims and their associated policies. A frame refers to a developed social construction template employed by its users to label, categorize and deal with a diverse array of world events (Surette, 37). Frames simplify people's dealings with the world around them by organizing events and experiences into groups and guiding what is perceived as the ideal policies and actions. In the crime and justice sphere, pre-existing frames are critical in making the labeling, processing, and understanding of criminal events more effortless for individuals holding a particular frame's view of reality. Notably, if a crime can be easily categorized into a particular frame, it will be perceived as another instance of a particular crime needing a specific response.
